What is a Treatment Innovator?
"Treatment InnovatorSM" is the term we use for researchers funded by The Gateway for Cancer Research: the men and women we support in their search for better treatments and cures that can help cancer patients TODAY. While we recognize that all investigative work has merit, our goal is to fund research focused on speeding results from the lab to the bedside, to patients who need them NOW.
While incredible research IS in progress, there are still 1,500 people dying each day from the ravaging effects of cancer— and the treatment methods that are often used to fight the disease. Much of the current research being done by other research organizations focuses on curing cancer in mice. While the list of achievements in this area is seemingly endless, there is a struggle to make the jump from animal to human. Most of these projects are 10 to 15 years away from developing treatments that can help human patients.
But we simply can't wait decades for mouse-based research to result in treatments and cures for humans. At The Gateway for Cancer Research, we challenge scientists to become true treatment innovatorsSM — to discover out of the box approaches that will save the lives of countless mothers, daughters, fathers and sons living with cancer.
At The Gateway, our focus is on supporting treatment innovatorsSM who are innovating TODAY—researchers who seek treatments that can help save the lives of today's cancer patients. These passionate researchers are exploring cutting-edge approaches to fighting cancer, and we stand with them every step of the way.
