Help fund a day of clinical trials at The Gateway for Cancer Research
THE GATEWAY FOR CANCER RESEARCH OFFERS A UNIQUE WAY TO HELP FUND CLINICAL TRIALS FOR CANCER PATIENTS
New Program Commemorates Important Days of the Year
SCHAUMBURG, IL – (March 2012) Everyone has days that hold special meaning and will always be remembered. They can be the kind of days that shine in the mind like the sun and bring a smile to one’s face, like a marriage. They can also be days of sadness that evoke tears over the loss of loved ones and all they brought to their life.
For cancer patients and survivors, a memorable day can be the day they left the hospital and went home, the day they went into remission or the day they knew they were going to live. For families, it can also be the day that their mother, father, sister or brother learned there were no more treatment options for them or the day their loved one lost their fight with this deadly disease and were freed from the pain and anguish.
Sadly, cancer kills 1,500 people every day and it doesn’t discriminate. It can touch any family, any time. The Gateway for Cancer ResearchSM knows how precious days are for patients and loved ones, so they created a Fund-A-Day Calendar www.demandcurestoday.org/fund-a-day-calendar to help individuals, families, and friends commemorate their important days and honor someone special, while also helping to fund clinical research for lifesaving treatments and cures.
Through the Fund-A-Day calendar, a novel program set up by The Gateway, visitors to the Fund-A-Day web page can choose any day of the year that has meaning to them and leave a message about why the day is special, or an inspirational note. Many of the messages honor loved ones who have died from cancer or patients who keep up the fight.
When selecting a special day, visitors also make a donation to help fund that day of research for someone. 99 cents of every dollar The Gateway receives goes to fund cancer research. The Gateway gives on average $28 per patient per day in a Gateway-funded clinical trial.
Donations are the life-blood of any non-profit organization and The Gateway is no exception. The reality is that cancer research is costly. The time, technology and manpower that go into it are substantial. Even so, The Gateway has funded more than 90 clinical trials and more than $20 million in leading-edge cancer research. Many individuals have donated to the cause over the years.
The organization is determined to save the lives of patients battling cancer today, not decades down the road, by funding research with the aim of helping cancer patients feel better, live longer or be cured. The Gateway currently funds patient-centered, leading edge clinical trials that aim to positively impact the lives of cancer patients at the earliest opportunity. The studies include conventional, integrative, combination, and complementary and alternative therapies.
“No one at The Gateway can express the need for clinical research better than cancer survivors who have been through some very tough times,” says, Lynette Bisconti President of The Gateway for Cancer Research. ”Reading the inspirational messages on the Fund-a-Day web page is very moving; many are memorials to loved ones who died and are sorely missed. But, by funding a clinical trial, these people are making a difference in the fight against cancer. We can’t think of a better tribute. We hope it brings some peace and solace to know they may help save a life while letting the world know about a special someone who was touched by cancer.”
