Donor Spotlight
All kinds of people donate to The Gateway for all kinds of reasons, but all believe a cure is within our reach!
They know in their heart that they can make a difference in the life of another person. And they believe that it’s time to Demand Cures TodaySM. They may give $5, or $500, or $5,000—they know that every single penny counts and that the best use of the money is in funding treatment innovatorsSM who are searching for cancer cures and treatments that help patients TODAY.
We’ve chosen a few of our donors to spotlight. They are just regular, everyday people, doing what they can to help us find a cure for cancer NOW. Read on for their stories. Feel inspired? You can demand cures, too!
Donor Spotlight: Peter Lella
A veteran of the real estate industry, Peter has seen the economy ebb and flow in recent years—yet he still believes that even during the toughest times, he has the duty to give generously to those in need. When he’s not working, he volunteers at his church, and gives to numerous organizations fighting cancer. “I believe that all of us—it doesn’t matter how much money you make—you have an extra penny to give to someone who has less,” he says.
Peter’s mother has been fighting breast cancer for six years, and a good friend’s wife is also battling cancer, so the cause is close to his heart. “When you are diagnosed with this disease, you want things done NOW,” he says. “Time is of the essence.”
Why donate to The Gateway for Cancer Research? Peter says he thinks The Gateway has the resources to make a major difference. “Gateway is doing all kinds of possible research to help people get cured of this terrible disease,” he explains. “I believe that not too far from today, institutions like yours may find a cure.”
Donor Spotlight: Richard Stein
As Director of Analytics & Marketing ROI for Cancer Treatment Centers of America, Richard Stein is intimately familiar with how cancer research can impact the lives of patients. But he’s not content just to work with treatment innovatorsSM and the CTCA team—he also donates money to The Gateway for Cancer Research to help Demand Cures TodaySM.
“We all want a cure for cancer, we all want better treatments for cancer, and we want it in our lifetime,” says Richard. “Every day, we’re aware of the need, the desperation and trauma that cancer brings. Why wait if we can effect change immediately?”
Richard and his family pledge to give 10% of their annual income to charitable organizations, and The Gateway is one of their beneficiaries. He lauds the leadership of President Lynette Bisconti, who he says looks for every opportunity to make The Gateway the best cancer-fighting organization possible. “What she and the board of directors bring is better decision-making, targeting of resources…I guarantee the organization is run very well,” says Richard. “This is not just another non-profit; this is turbo-charged and entrepreneurial. The Gateway is changing the way cancer research is practiced today.”
"Treatment InnovatorSM" is the term we use for researchers funded by The Gateway for Cancer Research: the men and women we support in their search for better treatments and cures that can help cancer patients TODAY.
