Two-Step ADAPT Therapy for Patients wtih Metastatic Colorectal Cancer

Colorectal cancer is a common and deadly cancer. The chief cause of treatment failure is due to the presence of cancer stem cells. The cancer stem cells go into hibernation dureing chemotherapy and 'wake up' when chemotherapy is withdrawn or the tumor cells become tolerant to drugs. To target the cancer stem cells is by activating these cells from dormancy and priming them for subsequent targeting. Metastatic colorectal cancer patients treated wtih this regiment showed a significantly improved survival rate compared to the survival rate in conventional therapy in a pre-clinical trial - not funded by The Gateway. The Gateway for Cancer Research is proud to fund this very promising clinical trial for metastatic colorectal cancer.
