Charity Runners Raise $10,000 for Cancer Research

CHICAGOLAND SPRING MARATHON AND HALF MARATHON RAISES NEARLY $10,000 FOR THE GATEWAY FOR CANCER RESEARCH
1300 Runners Take Part in Run
SCHAUMBURG, IL – (June 2012) More than 1300 marathoners and half marathoners participated in the Chicagoland Spring Marathon and Half Marathon, held in Schaumburg in late May. Runners battled the heat during a surprisingly warm spring day as they challenged themselves to achieve their personal goals.
Many of the runners were also Team Demand supporters, who raised and donated money to benefit The Gateway for Cancer ResearchSM. The Gateway is a non-profit organization that supports research for promising new treatment options with the aim of helping cancer patients feel better, live longer and be cured now.
Gateway volunteers in turn supported runners by manning a water station and handing out water, Gatorade and protein packs, as their way to thank participants for their support. Despite the heat, it was a great event, and many runners expressed appreciation for the support.
The event was also a successful fundraiser. Nearly $10,000 was raised to support cancer research. 99 cents of every dollar received by the Gateway will go directly to funding research to benefit today’s cancer patients.
The Gateway invites those who were not able to participate in this event to join in helping fight cancer by supporting cancer research through The Gateway’s Team Demand charity running and fundraising program.
