2013 Cancer Researcher of the Year: Pierre-Yves Dietrich
The first annual Cancer Researcher of the Year Award was presented to Pierre-Yves Dietrich, MD, PhD and Director, Center of Oncology at University Hospital Geneva, Switzerland.
From Dr. Dietrich..."More than 15 years ago, I observed that gliomas are infiltrated by cells from the immune system that appeared to be activated. This was an unexpected finding in an era where it was thought that the brain was poorly or not accessible for immune cells. New Clinical Trial Announced: Pediatric Osteosarcoma - Children's Hospital Philadelphia
Osteosarcoma is a malignant sarcoma of bone that afflicts children, adolescents and young adults in the prime of life. Standard therapy includes dose intensive chemotherapy and surgical resection of the primary tumor in bone. Chemotherapy improves survival to 65% for patients, but comes with substantial and irreversible toxicities. Learn more....
